How Neurotoxins Work To Soften Lines & Wrinkles

Neurotoxins work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that tell your facial muscles to contract, which is what creates expression lines and wrinkles when you smile, frown, or squint. When injected into specific muscles, the neurotoxin prevents these muscles from fully contracting, allowing the overlying skin to smooth out and soften existing wrinkles while preventing new ones from forming.

The Process

Neurotoxins are prescription only medications and require a thorough consultation to review your medical history, assess your facial anatomy, discuss your aesthetic goals and discuss possible risks and complications. Following consultation, if it is agreed that the treatment is safe for you and if you still want to go ahead, your medication is ordered and a treatment date is booked.

At Opalesce, the default neurotoxin prescribed is Botox, but occasionally other toxins, for example, Alluziance or Nuceiva are chosen if this is deemed most appropriate for certain individuals.
The Treatment

Using an ultra-fine needle, several small injections precisely placed into the targeted muscles are administered. The number of injection points varies depending on the individual's muscle movements and areas being treated. There is minimal to no downtime required, and you can return to normal activities immediately.

Results typically appear within 3-7 days, improving up to 2 weeks, and last 3-4 months, after which the nerve signals gradually return and muscle movement resumes, making follow-up treatments necessary to maintain the smooth, refreshed appearance.
